For Adult Sessions check-in is on Mondays from 10am -
12noon and check-out is on Friday beginning at 2 pm.
For Youth/Teen Sessions check-in is on Sunday from 2 - 4 pm and check-out is on Friday beginning at 11AM. Early check-in or check-out will only be allowed with prior consent from the administrator. So that our Campers' performances are not disturbed, check-out will not be allowed during the Talent Show for either age session. 2008 SUMMER CAMP THEMES -This summer we are going to be ‘traveling’ in the US to visit various areas and cities of interest.

Session 1: June 8th - 13th, 2008 Youth with varying abilities, Siblings & Friends, Ages 4-12 |

In our Youth sessions, campers will be excited to be apart of the traditions of FLC that campers of years past have grown to love and know so well! With our youth campers, our FLC staff strives to introduce campers to new learning experiences through camping and social interactions. FLC also prides ourselves as one of the top inclusive camping experiences in the United States, where all ability levels work together to become one camp unit. Campers with and without disabilities work together, live together and compete together to form unique cabin units. Using minor adaptations to the typical camping experience, we ensure all campers of all ability levels have the opportunity to succeed in all our activities. Our traditional Arts & Crafts, Music & Drama, Sports & Games, Aquatics and Tenting Nature programs are just a few of the FLC traditional programs that will be in store for campers this summer. At FLC we strive to provide our youth age campers a variety of programs to open them to a variety of new opportunities to learn and try things they have never tried before. Along with the traditional daily programming, camper favorites such as campfire, cabin challenge, carnival and Trading Post will all be back here at FLC. The highlight of the youth week's comes on Friday however, as parents can enjoy watching the unity, uniqueness and friendships formed at FLC in the closing ceremony Talent Show.
Session 1 Theme: New York We will be in the BIG Apple where the “city never sleeps” and there is always something exciting happening on Times Square. We will visit the Statue of Liberty and view the city skyline from our ferry. A trip to Little Italy for some Italian taste treats will begin the festivities on Thursday. Be prepared for the best on Broadway during Friday’s talent show!

Session 2 Theme: Texas Horses, cowboys & long-horns, barbeque and Tex-Mex will all be a part of this week as we “remember the Alamo” in our journey here. Please bring your line dancin’ boots and other western gear for the Barn Dance on Thursday night.

Session 3: June 22nd-27th, 2008 Teens with varying abilities, Siblings & Friends, Ages 12-18 |

This year at FLC, our teen programs will focus on allowing our teen campers to make more choices about their camping experience. With our typical programming being available, Arts & Crafts, Music & Drama, Sports & Games, Aquatics and Tenting Nature, teen campers will decide on what sessions to attend depending on what interests they choose to pursue while at camp. Teens of all ability levels will be given the responsibility of making their daily schedules, setting cabin rules and making many other decisions involved in their camping experience. Like all FLC sessions, teen sessions will be inclusive, where all ability levels work together to become one camp unit. Camper participation, decision making and responsibility is the same for all FLC campers, no matter what the ability level. Although Camp Challenge, Tent-outs, and all other FLC traditions are apart of the teen weeks, the highlight for most teen campers is the Thursday Night Dinner Dance (the "FLC Prom" to many staff and campers). The highlight for most parents however is still the Friday closing ceremony Talent Show, were teen campers often show off musical talents, skits and many other abilities that parents may have not known their camper possessed.
Session 3 Theme: Hawaii Get out your Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts and leis……..we’re going to the Islands! This will be a week of beaches (as we travel to St. Pete Lions den on the waters of the gulf), hula dancing, tropical food and drink. Thursday’s ending celebration will be more casual with a Luau party.

Session 4: July 6th-11th, 2008 Teens with Visual Impairments, Siblings & Friends, Ages 12-18 |

Following with the camp's original roots as a camp for children with visual impairments, FLC offers a session for teens with visual impairments. As this unique group of campers faces many transitional issues ahead, FLC staff looks to work with teens on their transition to high school and furthermore to college or the workforce. This session, like all FLC sessions, will be inclusive, as we hope friends and siblings of our campers with visual impairments can offer these campers suggestions and assistance during this time of teen development. Although Camp Challenge, Tent-outs, and all other FLC traditions are apart of the teen weeks, the highlight for most teen campers is the Thursday Night Dinner Dance (the "FLC Prom" to many staff and campers). The highlight for most parents however is still the Friday closing ceremony Talent Show, were teen campers often show off musical talents, skits and many other abilities that parents may have not known their camper possessed. *Note: Many DBS clients in this age range attend this session, so DBS clients are likely to know fellow campers if they attend this session.
Session 4 Theme: Hollywood The excitement of the Sunset Strip, walking the “red carpet”, making our own ‘films’ and premiering them at Friday’s talent show are just a few of the activities we will experience this week. Thursday will be spent viewing an Oscar winning film, then spending some “primp and pampers time” as our ‘stars’ get ready for the festivities and grand finale ball!

Session 5 Theme: Washington D.C. This week we will celebrate America by visiting our nation’s capital. We will learn a bit about our proud history and participate in some ‘old time’ activities to get a real feel of where we came from. George and Martha Washington have promised to be among the guests this week. God Bless America! Bring your patriotic duds for the picnic and dance on Thursday.

Session 6 Theme: San Francisco Haven’t you always wanted to stand on the Bridge and look our over the foggy Bay? Bring your tie-dye apparel, peace symbols & beads, and don’t forget a flower for your hair.......we plan to do it all! We are even planning a trip to watch the Rays play the A’s on Wednesday. Thursday we will make a trip to Chinatown for dinner and then get out the 60s and 70s music and “groove to the beat”! |

Session 7 Theme: Chicago We are going back to a different era of this mid-west city on the banks of Lake Michigan to a time when gangsters ruled the streets and pin-striped suits and flapper fringed dresses were all the rage. SO, bring appropriate dress for the ‘Mobster’s’ Ball, but leave your violin cases at home. Hopefully, we can experience real Chicago style deep dish pizza while we are there and dip our toes into the frigid waters of one of the Great Lakes, as well!

Session 8: August 4th – 8th, 2008 NEW! Young Adult Resort Camp- for those Ages 18-30 with varying abilities, |

For the first time in FLC history, a young adult resort session will be offered
this summer. Serving as a transition for campers from our teen sessions to
our adult sessions, the aim of this session is to provide young adults a resort
atmosphere where their camp experience is greatly determined by the choices of
activities they choose to participate in while at camp. Although our
programming is similar, with variations of our Arts & Crafts, Music & Drama,
Sports & Games, Aquatics and Tenting Nature programs available, programming will
be oriented to the interests of our young adult campers, as compared to our
youth and teen campers. Campfire, camp-out and, every campers favorite,
the Thursday Night Dinner Dance will all still be apart of the Young Adult
session. The Talent Show will still be apart of this session, but it will
be the camper's decision whether to participate or not.
Session 8 Theme: New Orleans The “Big Easy” - Mardi Gras – Jazz.....all these things come to mind along with Cajun food, beads and parades. We plan to experience them all during this week. We will all attend the masked Mardi Gras Ball as a wind-up celebration Thursday evening, so bring your best dancing shoes and ballroom dress!

Session 9: August 11th- 15th, 2008 Adult Resort Camp- for those ages 18+ with varying abilities |
|
|
Like Adult
Resort camps of the past, these adult sessions have a resort type atmosphere
with campers determining their own schedules depending on their interests at
camp. These sessions are set-up just like our campers have their very own
vacation package available to them, with the campers deciding what they would
like to do while "vacationing at the FLC Resort". Adult campers will have
programs such as Karaoke, Cooking, Arts & Crafts, Sports & Games, and many more
available to them. Campfire, Camp Challenge and the Thursday Night Dinner Dance
are the evening programs scheduled for the adult campers, with one night slot
being left open for a hopeful guest program. The Talent Show will still
be apart of this session, but it will be the camper's decision whether to
participate or not.
Session 9 Theme: Las Vegas Bright lights, casinos, entertainment by Elvis and the rest – a real Las Vegas vacation is what we are aiming for here. We will visit ‘Caesar’s Palace’ for a great dinner, entertainment and big band music on Thursday night. May ‘Lady Luck’ be with you this week?

Session 10 Theme: Nashville Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Elvis.....just a few of the country music favorites that will be heard over the airwaves this week. To go along with all this on the taste-bud side, we’ll be looking at award winning Chili, momma’s down home recipes and of course biscuits & grits! While we will enjoy some chillin’ time in the rockers just listening to the greats of country music, plan to move those bones on the dance floor Thursday night!

This year FLC is working hard to provide the best possible experience for our campers and think the best experiences for youth is one with peers of similar age. That is why more then ever registration is going to stick to the specified age groups and cabins will be split up into age groups each week.. If you have siblings or friends who want to come together but don’t fit in the same age group please contact Carissa at ext. 12 in the office for arrangements.)
