Ft. Myers, FL Saturday, May 10, 2008 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
The Event The GCCS is an open-water fundraising swim hosted by and held at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club in Miromar Lakes, Florida. (www.miromarlakes.com). Swimmers will choose their own distance to swim along a course set in the Community’s beautiful, aqua-blue, fresh water West Lake Como. Swimmers must recruit sponsors to donate funds in their name. Money raised will benefit the Florida Lions Camp. THE GCCS IS NOT A RACE, BUT A CASUAL SWIM FOR CHARITY The number of swimmers will be limited to 50. Swimmers will be eligible for prizes (see Rules), all participants will receive a tote bag filled with gifts and a post-swim lunch at Miromar’s Cabana Beach, where prize winners will be announced at the event’s wrap-up Awards Ceremony.
Prizes Prizes will be awarded to swimmers in categories that include: · Most money raised · Longest distance · Most inspiring swimmer · Oldest swimmer · Youngest swimmer Rules & Regulations ● To be eligible for prizes swimmers must collect minimum pledges of $750 in donations (the cost of one week at camp) with 75% of that amount due by April 27th. The balance will be due at registration. All swimmers are required to collect donations. Effective approaches from the past include personal contact and e-mail distribution ● Swimmers will choose the distance they wish to swim along the one-mile course, and will have two hours to complete their swim the day of the event. ● All entries must be received on or before April 27th. Entries accepted after this date will be accepted at the discretion of the GCCS Directors and will be subject to a $25 late fee. Late entries may not receive a tote bag.● Swimmers may wear goggles, wetsuits, swim fins. Children under 13 yrs of age and older will be allowed to swim in the Open Water event with written parental permission.● We make every effort to include swimmers of all abilities, but this is not an event for the typical recreational swimmer. Participants are expected to have a moderate level of swimming ability and should be able to swim unassisted in open water for at least one-half mile or 45 minutes of continuous swimming. Please note: As Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club is a privately owned resort-style facility in a gated community, eligible swimmers will be issued a pass to gain entry for themselves and one companion for this event.
